The Swimming with Sharks Scavenger Hunt at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Will your team get in the swim—or get schooled?

Discovering exotic and bizarre fish is just part of the fun when you embark on this adventure at Southern California’s premier aquarium, right in Long Beach. On teams, you’ll follow a trail of tricky clues, uncover amusing trivia about some of the ocean’s most unusual creatures, and learn a few crazy things about your teammates in the process. Highlights include a creature that could hang with Batman, a fish that might wield a scalpel, a sea jelly that sounds like breakfast, a pet fit for Scrooge, a swimmer you’ll want to salute, and birds that get turned on by citrus.

You’ll search for answers to such questions as…

  • Visit a tank where you might expect to find enormous grouches. Some older residents here might say to the kids, “You look so cute, I could eat you up!” What word might lead you to believe these creatures got more sun than the others here? Answer: Tanner crabs often eat juveniles, as noted at the Giant Crab tank.
  • Who needs to disappear from a “circus act” for Nemo to turn into a Nina? Answer: Clownfish can change from male to female if the breeding female disappears. (The fish in the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ was a clownfish.)

No knowledge of the ocean or the aquarium is necessary to play—or to win.

For corporate groups, this Long Beach aquarium makes a great off-site destination for team-building fun. We’ve also staged a hunt here for a company that rented out part of the facility for a party and dinner to follow a hunt.

Kids Edition available: School groups looking for an activity where kids and adults can collaborate and have fun together will love our “Go Fish” edition.

What happy hunters saying

A 5-star review on Google: “We held a corporate event at the Aquarium of the Pacific and invited Watson Adventures to lead us in a team-building activity. The host was fantastic and we all had a great time going through the aquarium to search for clues. The photo challenges made for especially memorable moments. 10/10 would recommend for your next corporate or team event!”

The Murder Mystery Mayhem at the Aquarium Scavenger Hunt

The deadliest shark might be on your own team!

So you planned a tranquil team-building outing to your favorite aquarium? Sorry, bad luck! Turns out someone in your group—possibly on your own team—is a real Jekyll and Hyde, and they’re scheming to leave you swimming with the fishes.

Everyone in your group has been surreptitiously poisoned, and the clock is ticking. To save yourselves and get the antidote, you must play the villain’s game, identify the would-be killer, and prevent your own murder.

The killer has hidden their identity in a series of thorny puzzles, as part of an aquarium murder mystery scavenger hunt. You’ll be tasked with answering trivia questions, solving interlocking puzzles, deciphering coded messages, and meeting the conditions of tricky photo challenges around the aquarium.

Along the way, your team might…

  • Ward off a shark attack!
  • Get psychedelic with jellies!
  • Show an octopus that you are multi-armed and dangerous!
  • Tackle trivia about famous murder mysteries.
  • Identify snippets of songs that involve fish.

If your group enjoys scavenger hunts and escape-room games, they’ll love this aquarium murder mystery activity. The game will also help you solve the mystery of how to entertain a diverse group of people while boosting morale and teamwork. It’s perfect for a private party or a corporate team-building outing of any size.

A Kids Edition is also available, in which kids age 7 and up work with adults. It’s a great activity for a school field trip, a birthday party, a family reunion, you name it.
