More Highlights from Watson Adventures’ First 17 Years
For nearly two decades, scavenger hunters like you have set a whole lot of weird, fun records—from the most coveted prize to an attempted bribe you really have to read to believe.
We return this week to our Book of Records, after an ever so slightly braggadocious first chapter. Read on for more highlights from our first 17 years of adventure.
Watson Adventures Book of Records, Part Two
Most coveted prize offered on a corporate scavenger hunt: A paid day off—and the teams were crazy competitive to get that day off!
Longest scavenger hunt: Despite our advice, one company insisted on an almost day-long hunt in Manhattan. The longer the hunt lasted, the more teams turned in photos of themselves relaxing at outdoor cafes all over town.
Most “exotic” language a hunt was translated into: Dutch
Best wedding proposal: The suitor popped the question along the Brooklyn Promenade at the end of our Skyline at Sunset Scavenger Hunt. We used our tricky puzzle box, and inside he wanted a Ring Pop (she loves them). Once she opened the box, he got down on one knee and proposed.
Craziest movie cameo: Teams on the Secrets of Central Park Scavenger Hunt ran into the shooting of a scene for the movie Enchanted, with dancing brides in white dresses—and our hunt host Anna Kaiser was one of them! Several hunters got team photos with the “brides.”
Most unusual client request: Recently a client asked that teams incorporate a unicorn head for a team photo. (Don’t worry, it wasn’t a real unicorn head.)
Most unusual costumes on a scavenger hunt: A pair of cupids showed up at the Getty Center for our Naked at the Getty Scavenger Hunt for Valentine’s Day. An Adam and Eve also showed up at another “Naked at the Art Museum” hunt.
Most disappointed hunter: Someone brought ghost-detecting equipment to our Ghosts of Greenwich Village Scavenger Hunt. The customer was crestfallen to discover that he wouldn’t be scavenging for actual ghosts.
Most unusual bribe offered to a hunt host: Hunt Host Corin Coyle was pregnant when she led a scavenger hunt for a group of doctors in Nashville. One team promised to deliver her baby for extra points! “Funny thing is,” says Corin, “I was having Braxton Hicks contractions during that hunt.”
Most inspiring moment: On a Secrets of Old Boston Scavenger Hunt for Girl Scouts, a team showed up at the finish line carrying a teammate who had a previously broken leg and was on crutches. It was touching to see them pull together!
